ABOUT JOHN STARKS
John Levell Starks (born Aug. 10, 1965) is an American former professional basketball shooting guard. Starks was listed at 6’5″ and 190 pounds during his NBA playing career. Although he was undrafted in the 1988 NBA draft after attending four colleges in his native Oklahoma, including Oklahoma State University, he gained fame while playing for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association in the 1990s.

His tenacity, desire to win, and plays like “The Dunk”, made Starks into a great crowd favorite in New York. Despite not being a perennial all-star, Starks is generally considered one of the greatest Knicks in history. Starks’ fiery intensity often led to emotional displays on the court.

During his eight-year career with the New York Knicks, Starks was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 1992-1993. He became an NBA All-Star in 1994 and was deemed the League’s Sixth Man of the Year in 1996 and 1997. He averaged 14.1 points per game, while leading the Knicks in three-point goals (982). In addition, he remains 11th in total points (8,489), 8th in assists (2,394), and 7th in steals (711) in Knicks history.

In 1995, Starks became the first NBA player to hit 200 three-pointers in a single season. The year prior, in 1994, John made a life decision to start giving back to the community and founded the John Starks Foundation, which provides monetary grants to New York, Tri-State and Tulsa Oklahoma college-bound high school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to community service.

In 2003, Starks retired as a beloved player in the New York Knicks’ history. That same year, Starks was named Alumni and Fan Development Advisor for the New York Knicks. In this role, he continues to focus on expanding the Knicks Alumni relations, community relations and fan development programs.

When not rooting for the Knicks, Starks enjoys playing golf and working on his foundation’s agendas. His autobiography, John Starks: My Life was released in the fall of 2004.

Grand Forks Subaru Kia dealership owner Matt Bredemeier among nominees for national award – Yahoo News

Oct. 21—GRAND FORKS — A national media company has announced that a Grand Forks automotive dealer is in the running for a nationwide award.

Matt Bredemeier, owner of Grand Forks Subaru Kia, will be among a group of 48 nominees from across the United States who will be honored at the National Automobile Dealers Association Show Jan. 27 in Dallas, Texas.

The announcement was made Friday by TIME, the 99-year-old media brand behind magazine and digital platforms.

“Along my career path, I have had the opportunity to work for some outstanding mentors,” Bredemeier said in the media release. “I learned so many different things from them and was always taking notes so I could put those experiences to work in my own dealership. There isn’t a day that goes by that I do not try to learn something new.”

The 1994 graduate of Mayville State University earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration before entering the field of finance after college. He later moved into auto sales and today he is sole owner of Grand Forks Subaru Kia.

The Dealer of the Year Award is sponsored by TIME and Ally, a financial services company.

A multiple recipient of the Subaru Love Promise Customer & Community Commitment Award, Bredemeier’s dealership has been recognized for its commitment to customer service and for being a positive force in his community, according to the TIME release. Bredemeier is chairman of the board of the Automobile Dealers Association of North Dakota.

Dealers are nominated for the Dealer of the Year Award by the executives of state and metro dealer associations around the country. One finalist will be selected from each of the four NADA regions, prior to naming a national Dealer of the Year.

The three finalists will receive $5,000 for their favorite charities and the winner will receive $10,000 to give to charity, donated by Ally.

Bredemeier was nominated for the TIME Dealer of the Year award by Matthew Larsgaard, president and CEO of the Automobile Dealers Association of North Dakota.

Bredemeier and his wife, Michelle, have one daughter.

“I think being able to help others is the most rewarding aspect of my retail automotive career,” he said in the news release. “Partnering with Subaru and helping our hometown charities every year during the Subaru Share the Love Event has been very fulfilling. The money that Subaru contributes and then the money we add to that has made a tremendous impact in our community.”

According to the TIME release, some of the organizations that have benefited include Circle of Friends Animal Shelter; Make-A-Wish; Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office Shop with a Deputy (Christmas gift program); North Dakota Museum of Art (sponsor of Concerts in the Garden series); Altru Health System (delivered fleece blankets and notes of support to cancer patients); Grand Forks Park District (planting trees on Arbor Day); Grand Forks Senior Citizens Center Meals on Wheels, United Way Backpack Program (providing food for the children in our community), Disabled Veterans, Sunshine Hospital Home, and Hope Inc.

LMP Automotive sells Stellantis dealership, signs deal to sell Kia dealerships – Automotive News

LMP Automotive Holdings Inc. has completed the sale of its Stellantis dealership in New York, and said it has entered into agreements to sell its Kia dealerships in Port Charlotte and Cape Coral, Fla., to Morgan Auto Group of Tampa, Fla.

Tasca Automotive Group, of Cranston, R.I., on Tuesday bought LMP’s White Plains Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram in White Plains, N.Y., Carl Tasca Jr., one of the group’s owners, confirmed to Automotive News. Tasca said he owns the group with three of his cousins.

The store was renamed Tasca Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram of White Plains. White Plains is north of New York City and near the Connecticut border.

LMP, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., auto retailer with seven other franchised dealerships, revealed in July that it had a deal in place to sell the Stellantis store and had hired BoA Securities to help it explore strategic options.

In February, LMP said it was exploring strategic alternatives for its business including a possible sale of the company, as it announced it would terminate seven pending acquisitions because it was unable to secure financing to pay for them.

LMP on Wednesday said it sold the Stellantis dealership for $15.8 million.

The New York dealership sale follows LMP’s disclosure this month that its planned sale of six dealerships across Florida and West Virginia to Atlantic Coast Automotive Group was terminated.

The two Kia dealerships were part of the six-dealership transaction that was terminated. LMP said it also has received interest in the four other dealerships that were slated for that transaction, located in West Virginia. The small auto retailer said Wednesday that it plans to move forward with its plan to liquidate and dissolve the company.

LMP, in a Wednesday news release, said it expects the Kia dealerships sale to close by the end of the year, pending closing conditions and regulatory approval.

Morgan Auto CEO Brett Morgan did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Morgan Auto ranks No. 8 on Automotive News’ list of the top 150 dealership groups in the U.S., retailing 60,951 new vehicles in 2021.

Last month, LMP in a news release said that it had entered into agreements to sell its final franchised dealership, a General Motors store, and related real estate in Greeneville, Tenn. LMP, which did not identify the buyer for that store, said then that it expected to close on that transaction in November, pending several closing conditions.

For Tasca Automotive, the White Plains store marks its first New York dealership, Tasca confirmed, and its second Stellantis store.

Tasca described Westchester County, where White Plains is located, as a top market.

“We’re always looking for great opportunities,” Tasca told Automotive News. “After expanding into Florida and then into the Midwest, we started to change our mindset from rather than looking at staying in New England, [to] trying to grow in any place that made sense. We kind of came across this just through mutual contacts in the industry.”

The White Plains acquisition was Tasca Automotive’s first purchase since November 2021, when it bought a Cadillac store in Melbourne, Fla., Tasca confirmed. Tasca Automotive bought two Buick-GMC stores, also in Florida, in October 2021.

The family-owned group, founded in 1943 by Bob Tasca Sr., also has dealerships in Illinois, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts, according to its website.

BofA Securities brokered the White Plains deal, Tasca said.
